Strengthening Communities to Withstand a Changing Climate
The impacts of climate change are being felt most by those who are least equipped to respond — vulnerable communities, smallholder farmers, and marginalized populations. At SAMFORTUNA FOUNDATION, our Climate Adaptation & Resilience programs aim to turn vulnerability into strength by helping communities understand, prepare for, and adapt to climate-related risks.
We combine local knowledge with scientific data to co-create solutions that enhance ecological balance, economic stability, and social well-being.
Our Key Interventions:
Community-Based Climate Risk Assessments Engaging communities to identify local climate threats (e.g. droughts, floods, heatwaves) and assess their exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity.
Climate-Smart Agriculture Promoting sustainable farming practices such as crop diversification, organic inputs, agroforestry, water-efficient irrigation, and climate-resilient seed varieties.
Green Infrastructure Development Implementing nature-based solutions like bio-swales, green belts, rain gardens, and vegetative buffer zones to reduce climate-related risks.
Disaster Preparedness & Early Warning Systems Building awareness and response capacity for climate-induced disasters through training, communication tools, and local disaster management plans.
Water Resilience Initiatives Enhancing water security through watershed restoration, rainwater harvesting, and groundwater recharge to mitigate drought and water stress.
Ecosystem-Based Adaptation (EbA) Protecting and restoring natural ecosystems — such as wetlands, forests, and mangroves — to buffer against climate shocks and enhance biodiversity.
Policy Engagement & Advocacy Supporting local governments and institutions with data, models, and evidence to integrate climate resilience into development planning.
